Weaving helps when feeling overwhelmed at work. Even a few hours every now and then keeps me happy. This winter I have two weaving projects. Here’s the first one, testing so called poorman\u00b4s damask in carpets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The carpets were woven for my niece and daughter. I first got some inspiration pictures. We then discussed the colors and measurements. As the purpose was to use both the carpets at the entrance, they had to be light and easily washable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I ended up in cotton twine warp as usual in rug carpets and recycled cotton tube yarn as weft. The problem was that the cotton tube yarn is said to shrink about 10-15% in the first wash. However, I did not want to start washing the rolls, so I made a test piece and washed it after weaving to see what happens. It did shrunk, in my opinion even 20% in width but not as much in lenght. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the test I decided to weave first and wash then and it worked well. The ready-made carpets were exactly as wide as planned and the entrance runner got upgraded to a kitchen runner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
